Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
