A senior Russian military figure has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The incident took place on Monday morning when an bomb concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
