Torrential Downpours Exacerbate Conditions for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, Agencies Alert
Persistent rains over the last seven days have compounded the extremely difficult circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted residents in the territory, as reported by relief groups.
"Awful" Night Brings Severe Dangers
A official detailed the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.
"These conditions was exceptionally difficult for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so strong," stated the representative.
Authorities voice extreme concern that children residing in temporary structures in wet garments will fall victim to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Deaths and Extensive Destruction
Medical officials have reported that one baby has died from exposure and no fewer than 11 other people have lost their lives in building collapses caused by the harsh conditions.
Other reports indicate a higher number of casualties. Authorities said that numerous structures had totally fallen and many others had sustained partial collapse.

Aid Efforts Deemed Inadequate
Organizations have escalated distribution of shelter, bedding and garments following the truce commenced, but they emphasize there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are striving constantly to deliver that aid and to distribute it, but the scale of the needs is so vast that we still have many thousands of people and minors who are really suffering each evening," cautioned one spokesperson.
Ongoing Issues and Ceasefire Provisions
The second phase of the ceasefire involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of troops, and other provisions.
Aid organizations have stressed the imperative for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to address pressing and ongoing requirements."
The war was triggered by an attack in October 2023. Subsequent military operations have resulted in a high number of casualties in the territory, based on medical figures.
